The “Third Annual Run United” will be held at Purchase College’s Cross Country Running Path on Saturday, November 12, 2011. The path is an engaging and diverse course utilizing the spacious, scenic and natural contours of the campus layout, which includes grassy athletic fields, a wood-chip path through the woods, and paved campus walkways. Awards will be given to the top three runners by age and gender group, as well as the top three teams.

The run benefits United Way of Westchester and Putnam’s Healthy Living for Kids initiative. The Initiative educates young children and their families by introducing them in a fun way to the benefits of eating healthy foods, making healthy choices, and getting plenty of exercise. The program has already led to a reduction in childhood obesity, dental cavities, and other diseases linked to poor nutrition. With 34% of surveyed children in Westchester elementary schools currently overweight or at risk of being overweight, and 18.2% of Westchester children from families receiving WIC designated as obese, this initiative is more critical than ever. This generation of children is the first that might not surpass the life expectancy of their parents. United Way is committed to addressing the most pressing needs in our community in order to improve the education, income and health of our residents.
