Susan Solow sent in this sad news:

It is with great sadness that we need to share wth our Taconic Family that we have lost another of our loyal members.

On Friday, October 20, Joanne Bertram passed away.  She was a veteran of two NYC Marathons and many half-marathons.  She fought a valiant fight, but unfortunately lost this last final race.

A wake is being held at Yorktown Funeral Parlor in Shrub Oak on Monday, Oct 23 from 7-9 pmTuesday 2-4 and 7-9.  The mass is at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on Wednesday at 11:15.  The cemetery is Assumption on Oregon Rd.

If members of Taconic would like to make donations in Joanne’s memory to TRRC (Box 711 Shrub Oak NY 10588 )then the proceeds could go towards  a bench being erected in FDR park.  I really believe Joanne would be happy to know that this is being done.

Please feel free to comment with a memory here.

  1. I am deeply sorry about the loss of Joanne. She was a good woman and great company on many training runs and races. I have missed her for many years, but now I am not running myself. I hope it was not that awful disease that has killed so many of us. My great sympathy to her family and friends.
    Love,
    Kate

  2. Rest in Peace Joanne. Although I may never have met you I know we shared the same passion for running. May you continue to run free in your next life.
